Throwback Thursday: The Charmels

This week’s Throwback Thursday features a classic RnB joint from waaay back in the day. The Charmels, I’m talking about, and their joint “As Long As I’ve Got You” is just a straight soulful joint. You can hear it in the voice when they sing the hook. Anyways for those that don’t know this was a group that came from, of all places, Tacoma, Washington, located in the Pacific Northwest. This threesome was on the scene from roughly 1959 – 1968. Then in 1994, this hip hop group came out exploding on the scene and helped extend the hip hop Golden Era. Their style was pure rawness and just listening to the music would incite you to go out and “chop off some fuckin’ heads”. This group rolled 8 fuckin’ members deep and each one killed it. Neckies by Langdon

Inside the Rappers’ Studio with Ghostface, Hosted by Miss Info

Yo here’s an interview that Miss Info recently did with Ghostface. Basically breaking down his upcoming album The Big Doe Rehab, which coincidentally is dropping the same day as the Wu-Tang project, 8 Diagrams. Man I have such a crush on Miss Info, and was so wishing that I’d run into her when I was out in NYC with AJK at the Complex party. But fate was not on my side that night. OOOOOOwweeeee

The new Snoop Dogg video just dropped and as much as I wasn’t a huge fan of the song intially, the video put it in a new light.

Paying homage to the king of the talkbox – Roger Troutman, the video is fresh and humorous at the same time. There are a few different devices to achieve that sound (aka Mr. Roboto voice that Tortilla Pain uses on all his songs) including the Vocoder, Talkbox, and Autotune.

You gotta love the intro with the momentarily blurred screen and “PLAY” in the top left corner giving it an authentic pre-recorded VHS feel. Though the video borrows off the many artists of the 70’s – 80’s, its a breath of fresh air in today’s obsession with wack big budget video’s full of nothing but slow motion rim-spinning and money tossing (Big up to Kanye for “Stronger” and “Good Life”, a few other current creative videos).

Oh..and this probably had a relatively low budget compared to Baby “Turdman” Williams’ “$100 Million” video. Speaking of which, the Old $tunna just got busted with weed and gats..smart.

Levi’s x Jordan = 23/501

Via TheShoeGame.com, the Jordan brand and Levi’s Jeans are collaborating to put together a pair of 501 selvedge jeans, denim AJ1s and a tshirt.  This collabo effort will be called, “23/501″ and will be released to the public on March 01, 2008.  Going rate will be $395 for the entire pack.  I honestly can’t wait to see the outcome of this partnership.  Meanwhile, make the leap to see a teaser pic of the jeans and more info as provided by TheShoeGame.com.

Kidrobot French Series Dunnys

Series 4 has come and gone and already there are whispers of a sub-series. Not much info has been floating around on the French series, but I did manage to find some pics. I’ll have a follow up post when I know more precise info. Make the leap to see said photos.
